Vegetarian Day

野菜

Since October 1st is Vegetarian Day, I would like to talk about different kinds of diets today. I think being a vegetarian in Japan is difficult. Many Japanese dishes use some kind of meat or many Japanese people like to go to yakiniku. If your coworkers want to go to eat meat, you should go with them. However, if you are a vegetarian it can be hard to find something to eat.

Vegetarians are people who do not eat meat. Pescatarians are people who do not eat meat, but eat fish. In the United States I do not think being a pescatarian is very popular. Something that is becoming popular recently in the United States is veganism. Being vegan means that you do not eat meat, fish, or any products made from animals. This means vegans do not eat milk, cheese, ice cream, or any other product that uses something from an animal. Even many gummy snacks use gelatin, which uses animal products.

Being vegan is very difficult, especially in Japan where it is hard to find many of the vegan food products you can find in Western countries. Veganism is not very popular in Japan. However, there are some restaurants in Tokyo where you can get vegan food. I recommend trying it! It is very interesting, delicious, and healthy for you! One of my favorite vegan restaurants in Tokyo is called ain.soph. ain.soph has a few branches, but the branch I like most is in Shinjuku. It is called ain.soph ripple. They have vegan burgers, falafel burgers, vegan burritos, and vegan macaroni and cheese! The ingredients they use are all plant-based. This means the macaroni and cheese does not have real cheese and the burgers do not have real meat. However, the taste is still very good!

I think it is always interesting to try new food, so if you have the chance maybe you can try some vegan food!
