Blaming millennials

Today I would like to talk about a trend on the Internet. This trend has become increasingly obvious in the past five or so years. These days, you see a lot of articles blaming millennials for problems in today's society.

You might wonder why younger people are being blamed for the problems in the world today. I'm going to talk about some of the things that the older generation is blaming on millennials. The first one is not buying diamonds. This one may sound funny to you. I also thought it was funny. Of course, millennials do not have as much access to money as the generation before them. Millennials have been shown to want to spend their money more on things like trips and other intangible things. This is opposite to the older generation, who loved tangible objects. Diamonds, precious stones, brand names, and more were very important to the older generation, but are not as important to the younger generation. We would rather spend our money on experiences. Also, prices have inflated drastically. Things like diamonds are not feasible for a millennial to buy.

Cable TV is another thing that the media claims that millennials have killed. This is because a lot of millennials tend to watch TV through online viewing services, such as Netflix or Hulu. Instead of looking at it as a shift in what is popular, the media tends to put the blame on millennials for the reason these things are dying out. Actually, there seems to be no need for cable TV these days. Everything is accessible over the Internet.

One other big thing mentioned in the media is marriage. Less millennials are getting married these days. This may be for a few different factors. Getting married is expensive, so some people may not want to pay for a wedding even if they are living with a lifetime partner. Another reason might be that millennials are waiting to get married until after they have launched their careers. In the past, people usually got married pretty early in their lives. These days it is not seen as something you have to do to be successful or have a happy life.

There are many more things that the media blames on the younger generation. If you Google "things millennials have killed", you will be able to see for yourself a lot of the titles of the news articles. For me, I think we need to stop blaming the younger generation for things that are changing. I think this is something that has been going on for a very long time. We have to realize that the world will change as we get older, and not all of the changes are bad. Most of them will be good. What do you think? Do you think people blame millennials in Japan for certain issues?
