Nara

This blog will be about my day in Nara. For the last day of my three-day vacation, I went to Nara with my friend and enjoyed sightseeing around the city.

Nara is a really wonderful place. There are many temples and shrines you can see. My friend and I only went to one temple and one shrine though. It was a little rainy on the day we went so we didn’t want to walk around too much outside. The name of the shrine I have already forgotten, but there was a very nice view of Nara from the balcony.

The temple we went to was Todaiji, which is where the Big Buddha is. I was really excited to go there. I have been once, but I had forgotten a lot about the scenery. The temple was really beautiful. Also, the Buddha was huge! There were also many children there on school trips. The children were all lined up to crawl through a hole which is the same size as the Buddha’s nostril. They say that if you can crawl through it without getting stuck, you will have good luck. However, the hole is very small, so most adults cannot get through I think. I did not try to go through.

The main attraction for me at Nara, however, was the deer. I really love animals, so I was so excited to feed the deer. There were also many baby deer, so I wanted to feed them also. The baby deer were more scared of people than the adult deer though, so I couldn’t pet them. The adult deer let you take pictures and stuff with them so it was really fun. However, some of the deer were a little aggressive. While I was feeding one deer, another bit deer suddenly ran at me and head butted me in the leg. It was very painful and I almost fell down. That was the only bad part about feeding the deer. Overall, they were very sweet and even bowed when they wanted to eat rice crackers! They were very cute.

After all of that, I got on a bullet train to come back to Tokyo. It was a really nice vacation, but I wish it had been longer.
