Superfood

Today I would like to talk about superfoods. Superfoods have become very popular in the West recently. What are superfoods? Superfoods are just different kinds of food that are very healthy for your body. “Superfood” has been used as a marketing strategy to make people buy more of these foods at higher prices. However, these foods are very healthy for you.

Recently, I have been getting into health. I wanted to start eating more healthily and to exercise more. I looked through many blogs and articles, especially on Pinterest (a smartphone app), to see what kind of recipes I could make at home. I found many new food items that I had never tried before. Sometimes, I had to go to international stores like Kaldi, Nissin, or National Azabu, but it was worth it. I want to introduce some of the superfoods I really enjoy eating with you today!

One main food that I have been eating recently is called Quinoa. Quinoa is from South America. The ancient Aztecs used to eat Quinoa in their daily diet. Quinoa is a grain, so it can be eaten like rice. I use it as a substitute for rice. I think it tastes good with chicken and vegetables. Quinoa is much healthier than rice. It gives you many nutrients such as fiber and protein. I mix quinoa and chia seeds and then boil them to make a side dish for meat and vegetables.

The last food I want to introduce is acai. Acai is a popular fruit these days. It also comes from South America. It grows in the Amazon. Acai has many good nutrients which help you lose weight, keep your skin looking young, give you energy, and also helps digestion. Also, it is delicious in smoothies and Acai bowls. Acai bowls are bowls of acai smoothie mixed with granola, bananas, strawberries, and other fruits. It makes a very good breakfast.

This recipe uses kale, which is hard to find in Japan. You can use spinach instead.
