The Summer Olympics

リオデジャネイロオリンピック

Today I would like to talk about the summer Olympics. Right now, many people all over the world are watching the Olympics at home. As of today, the United States is in first place with 93 medals. Second place is Great Britain with 50 medals. Japan is in 6th place with 33 medals.

The United States has won events such as swimming and gymnastics. These are my favorite events. There are some very popular Olympians recently in American social media. A lot of women are getting gold medals for the U.S. this year. My three favorite American Olympians are Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, and Lilly King.

Simone Biles is a gymnast for the U.S. She has won 4 gold medals and one bronze medal so far this year. Her strongest event is her floor routine. I recommend you watch it! She can do flips that no one else can do. Katie Ledecky is a swimmer for the U.S. She has won 4 gold medals and one silver medal. She is one of the fastest swimmers in the world. Lilly King is also a swimmer for the U.S team. She has won two gold medals. She is from the town where I went to university; Evansville, Indiana. This is why I support her!

One thing that is really amazing about all of these athletes is that all three of them are teenagers! When I was a teenager, I was struggling to finish high school. I have a lot of respect for these athletes.

Japan has the most medals in Judo. Japan has 12 Judo medals – 3 gold, 1 silver, and 8 bronze. One of the Judo players is Mashu Baker. I think he is very interesting. He is also very young. He has won one gold medal so far. Japan’s men’s gymnastics team won gold for their all-around performance. They beat Russia by almost three points. Let me know your favorite events and athletes from the Olympics!
