Fall in the United States

Today I would like to write about some of the traditions for fall in the United States. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year in my home country. I love the crisp air, and the bright colors of the trees. There are also many special food and drinks we have during fall that are really delicious. Since there are so many things to talk about, I will split this topic into two blogs. In this blog, I will talk about haunted houses, pumpkin patches, and pumpkin carving.

Haunted houses are extremely popular in the U.S. during fall season. They pop up all over towns and cities in the beginning of September and they stay open until Halloween. People flock to them for thrills and chills. Unlike Japan, haunted houses are usually a limited time in the U.S. They are also very popular. I always used to go to haunted houses with my friends during this time of the year.

Pumpkin patches are a very popular thing in the countryside of the U.S. Many families go there, especially ones with young children. Families get to go around the pumpkin patch and look for a perfect pumpkin to carve. After the family finds a pumpkin (or pumpkins), they go home and carve the pumpkins.

Pumpkin carving is a very popular event to do with family or friends during Halloween season. Children especially like decorating the pumpkins. After a pumpkin is carved, we call it a Jack-o'-lantern. During October, we sit the Jack-o'-lanterns on our porches to show to the neighborhood.

These are some of my favorite things to do in fall. Have you ever done any of these things?
