Hometown

For this blog, I would like to introduce my hometown.

My hometown is called Santa Claus. It is in Indiana in the United States.

It is named after Santa Claus, the man who comes on Christmas. This means that my town is Christmas themed.

There are many statues of Santa all over the town. During Christmas, everyone in the town decorates their house with many lights and we have a competition to see who has the most extravagant house. Many people come from far away to see all of the lights.

My town is also very small.

There are only around 2,000 people living in Santa Claus.

It is a very rural area. Near my house there are many farms.

The main things grown in my area are corn and soy beans. Raising cattle is also very popular.

Since it is very rural, there are many woods also.

Hunting is very popular in my area.

Most people I know go hunting for a lot of the meat they eat. They don’t buy a lot of meat in stores.

People hunt deer, rabbit, turkey, squirrel, and some other animals. Deer and turkey are the most popular because there are so many of them.

You can see deer almost every day in my neighborhood.

My town also has a theme park called Holiday World.

Since the town is named Santa Claus and is decorated for Christmas all-year-round, the theme park is also holiday themed.

There are different sections of the park that represent different holidays. I used to work at Holiday World when I was 14 years old, as my summer job.

The summer in my hometown is very hot and humid. However, because it is far away from the city, at night during the summer we are able to see shooting stars. You can see them almost every night! During the summer, there are also many fireflies.

When I was young I used to catch the fireflies and put them in a jar for a few hours to make a light.

Then I would let them go. My brothers and I also used to catch frogs and lizards by my grandfather’s lake for fun when we were young.

When I was a teenager, I really hated living in my hometown. I thought it was too small and was too boring. Now, I think growing up in a small town was best for me.

I got to experience nature every day and see a lot of beautiful sights. Here are some of my pictures from Indiana!
