Today I would like to write about how I think social media is having a negative affect on the younger generation. I think because these days we have Twitter, Facebook, snapchat, and Instagram, we want to show our friends everything. This can be good of course, but sometimes it can be negative.
One case it can be negative is if we use SNS to make fun of others. Young people these days like to take embarrassing pictures of strangers or write rude things about them online. They think that because it is their SNS account, they can do what they want. However, this can really hurt others. I had an experience yesterday on a crowded train. There was a woman standing by me who was a little tipsy and kept bumping into me. It was a crowded train so I didn't mind. However, she did not like being near me. I looked down and happened to see her phone. She was writing a tweet about me on her Twitter account. She used the word "gaijin", which I really don't like. I was very upset by this.
In cases like these, what we post on SNS affects others. That woman made me feel really bad about myself and also made me have negative thoughts about her. I don't think we should be us my SNS in this way, however it is becoming very popular.
Another way SNS can be negative is if we use it too much everyday. I am guilty of this too. I check my SNS constantly. However, if we do this, we miss out on lots of other things like talking to friends or focusing on the TV show we are watching.
I think overall, SNS is good. I think many people need to rethink how they use it though. Have you ever had a negative experience with SNS? Let me know!
