Udon

Recently, I made udon from scratch with my circle. I have never made udon before, so it was a really interesting experience for me. I didn't know it was made with such simple ingredients.

First, my circle gathered in a social kitchen that we rented out in a city center. Then, we split up into groups of about 5 to make the udon. It was a little awkward at first because I didn't know anyone on my group. None of us had made udon before.

We started by mixing all of the ingredients up in a bowl to make a dough. Then I kneaded the dough for a few minutes. After that, we put the dough into a bag. After putting it into a bag, we all had to step on it. This was the most interesting part of making udon. It really felt like we were doing something in a traditional way. We had to step on the dough for a long time to make sure it was flat enough.

Next, we had to roll the dough out. I pushed with the rolling pin very hard to make the dough flat. I think o pushed too hard though, because the next day I had bruises on my hands. After the dough was very thin, we started to cut it into very thin slices. Then we put the noodles into boiling water.

We were all so hungry, so we all gathered around the pot waiting for the noodles to be done. Finally, the noodles were soft and we could eat. We prepared the dipping sauce and put the noodles into our bowls. We garnished the udon with scallions. It was actually really good! I was surprised that we did a good job.

After eating and cleaning up, we decided to eat monja together. It was a really fun day for me. Have you ever made udon from scratch? If so, how did it turn out?
