Moana

Today I would like to talk about a movie I watched recently. It is the new Disney movie. The title is “Moana”. I really enjoyed this movie. It’s about a young girl who goes against her father’s wishes and travels on the ocean in hopes to save her home.

In the story, the main character always feels like the ocean is calling to her. However, her father says that it is dangerous and she must not go there. She disobeys her father so she can experience the life she has always wanted.

One of the reasons I really liked this movie was that it didn’t have any princes. It is nice to see a Disney movie where there is no love interest. This shows that girls can be strong without men and can be independent. It also shows that they can save themselves. I think this is a very positive message for young girls these days. In today’s world, women are still expected to be weaker, more emotional, and more domestic than men. However, the younger generation is trying to change that image.

Younger girls and young women are working hard to show that women are equal to men. Moana shows us this by taking her future into her own hands and making her own decisions about her life. She doesn’t let her father stand in her way. She also doesn’t need to have a man go with her on her journey (however, there is a character who is a man who meets her on her way).

When very young girls watch this movie, they will have a strong role model to look up to. Girls can aspire to be strong like Moana. This is so important. What do you think about it? Are there any strong female characters in Japanese animation?
