Today I want to talk about guilty pleasures. A guilty pleasure is something that we really enjoy, but we are embarrassed to let other people know about it or we feel guilty that we like it. However, they usually aren’t bad things. Some very common guilty pleasures are reality TV, men who like “girly” things such as going to the spa, online shopping, eating chocolate, among many other things. To help you understand what guilty pleasures are, I will tell you some of mine.
One of my biggest guilty pleasures is reality TV. Reality TV is infamous in the U.S. and many other English speaking countries for being very poor quality TV. A lot of people think that only “stupid” or “uncultured” people watch certain programs. Even though reality TV has a bad reputation, I love watching it. It gives me something to do when I’m very bored. It’s interesting to see the lives of other people and to see how our lives are very different.
Another guilty pleasure of mine is any kind of Peter Pan movie or book. Peter Pan is seen as something for children, but since I was a child I have loved Peter Pan. I have read many books that are related to Peter Pan and I have seen most movies, if not all, related to it. I love fantasy and I love the story of Peter Pan because it teaches us to enjoy life and “never grow up”.
My last guilty pleasure would be Harry Potter. Though there are many people in my generation who love Harry Potter, sometimes it can be seen as childish to still like it. However, I love Harry Potter so much that I have a cell phone case and even a scarf designed with the colors of the Gryffindor house in Harry Potter. However, sometimes I am embarrassed when other people see my cell phone cover because I think maybe they will think badly of me.
In the end, I love all of my guilty pleasures. I don’t think they are things we should be embarrassed by. They are the things that make us who we are! What are your guilty pleasures?
