Father’s Day

Today I would like to talk about Father’s Day. Father’s Day is coming up this Sunday, June 19th. I think the traditions of this day might be the same in Japan and the United States. On the day of the holiday, you give your father a present and thank him for being a good dad.

I remember celebrating Father’s Day since I was very little. My brothers and I would get really excited to buy something for our dad. When we were children we always bought our dad flower seeds, because he loves to grow flowers. When we were children we thought this was a great gift.

As we got older, it seemed more and more difficult to buy a present for our dad. Flower seeds were about one dollar, so we thought they were too cheap and our dad’s garden was already very big. We tried to think of other things to get him. Shopping for your dad is much harder than shopping for your mom in my opinion.

Since my brothers and I have been doing part-time jobs and working since we were 16, from around that age we decided to put our money together and buy our dad one big gift. Each father’s day we buy him something that he talks about wanting. For example, one year we bought him a new TV.

Now, since I’m living in Japan, it’s hard to get my dad a Father’s Day gift. Last year I looked online and found a website that delivers baskets of gourmet food on Father’s day, so I bought a basket for my dad.

I don’t know if Father’s Day is as popular as Mother’s Day in Japan, because I don’t see many advertisements for it. When it was Mother’s Day, there were many ads in the supermarkets and other places, but I have only seen one or two ads for Father’s Day. I hope everyone thinks about a good gift for your dads this year and I hope you all give your fathers a nice Father’s Day!
